Structure

Girder: These horizontal beams span the width of the crane and support the weight of the trolley, lifting system and the container being lifted. Girder is designed to carry huge loads and is usually made of high-strength steel.

Legs: The legs support the girder and connect it to the ground or a track system. In a container gantry crane, these outriggers run on tracks along the length of the crane’s working area. For rubber tyred container gantry cranes, the outriggers are equipped with rubber tires to move around the container yard.

Trolley and hoist: The trolley is a mobile platform that runs along the length of the girder. It houses the hoist, which is responsible for lifting and lowering the container. The hoist consists of a system of ropes, pulleys and electric hoist drums that enable the lifting operation.

Spreader: The spreader is a device attached to the lifting rope that is used to clamp and lock the container. Each corner of the spreader is designed with a twist lock that engages with the corner castings of the container. There are different types of spreaders depending on the size and type of container.

Crane cab and control system: The crane cab accommodates the operator and provides a clear view of the crane’s working area, allowing precise control during container handling. The cab is equipped with various controls and displays to manage the crane’s movement, lifting and spreader operations.

Power system: Container gantry cranes require a lot of electricity to operate their hoist, trolley and travel mechanisms. The power system can be either electric or diesel driven, depending on the type of crane.

Key Factors Affecting Container Gantry Crane Cost

Several factors affect the price of a container gantry crane. Here is an overview of the most important factors:

Load capacity: The main factor affecting the cost is the capacity of the container gantry crane. Freight container cranes come in a variety of sizes, typically ranging from 30 tons to 50 tons or more. Cranes with larger capacities naturally cost more.

Span length: Span length defines the distance between the legs of the crane and also plays a major role in determining the container gantry crane price. The larger the span, the more materials and engineering required, resulting in increased costs.

Lifting height: The maximum height to which the crane needs to lift containers will affect the design and cost of the crane. Higher lifting heights require more complex and more robust structures.

Container type: The type and size of containers you plan to handle (e.g. 20 feet or 40 feet) will affect the design and specifications of the crane. Different types of containers may require specialized spreaders, which affects the overall cost.

Throughput: The number of containers handled per hour (also known as throughput) is a key factor. High throughput cranes often require additional features and technology to operate efficiently, which impacts costs.

Case

Israel European Type Double Girder Gantry Crane Transaction Case

Our first contact with the customer began on May 6, 2024. The customer sent a screenshot of a similar tender document, and did not say much, just urging for a quotation. Although the customer did not show a strong purchase intention, we still took it seriously, and each time we modified the quotation, we strictly adjusted it according to the customer’s new requirements, and modified it 10 times in total.

The customer is engaged in the lifting industry and is also involved in overseas trade, so there are many types of products involved. Even when participating in exhibitions abroad, when customers put forward new requirements, our team always maintains efficient response. After several months of communication and adjustment, the customer took the lead in placing an order to purchase a 5-ton European type semi gantry crane in August, and then sold a European type double girder gantry crane in November.

On the day of the factory visit, the customer inspected the raw materials, production workshops, accessories and transportation processes in detail, highly recognized the product quality, and promised to strengthen cooperation in the future. The negotiation in the conference room lasted for 6 hours, and the process was full of challenges. In the end, the customer contacted the finance department on the spot to arrange an advance payment, and we successfully won the order.
