Double Girder Bridge Cranes are often used where high speeds and heavy service are required, or where the crane needs to be fitted with walkways, crane lights, cabs, magnet cable reels or other special equipment. Do you need to purchase a double girder overhead crane? You have a number of things to consider so that you select a crane that delivers what you need. When buying a double-girder overhead crane, you must consider weight capacity, span, hook approach and more. Here are the top things to consider so that you buy the crane thats right for your application.

Weight capacity: The first item on the list is the amount of weight you will be lifting and moving. Double girder overhead cranes are designed and built for frequent heavy lifting. This usually means loads of 20 tons or more.

Span: The next thing to check is the span your crane will be operating in. Cranes with spans over 60 feet usually require a double beam bridge crane. Keep in mind that for cranes over 60 feet, rolled section girders usually have to be spliced, which can significantly increase the weight of the crane.

Classification: All overhead cranes are classified based on load and cycles. The classification determines the intensity of the load and the number of cycles the crane completes in a given period of time.

Hook height: Top running double beam bridge cranes operate on the top of each track beam. Underhung bridge cranes operate on the underside of each track beam. Top running double beam bridge cranes have a higher weight capacity than underhung bridge cranes. They also offer more headroom and a maximum hook height. If maximum headroom or hook height is important to you, choose a top running double beam bridge crane.
