A double girder gantry crane is a heavy-duty gantry crane featuring a dual-beam structure mounted on top of the crane legs and traveling along ground rails. Compared with single girder gantry cranes, this design offers greater stability and higher load-handling capacity. It is typically equipped with an electric crab hoist or open winch trolley rather than a monorail hoist, making it suitable for medium to heavy lifting applications.
The lifting trolley runs on rails installed on the top of the two main girders, while the girders themselves are supported by one or two rigid legs connected to end carriages. This configuration allows the entire gantry crane to travel smoothly along the runway rails. During operation, the crane achieves full three-axis movement: the trolley travels laterally, the hoist lifts and lowers the load, and the crane structure moves longitudinally along the track.
For long-distance travel, double girder gantry cranes are usually equipped with a cable reel system to ensure stable and reliable power supply. Optional cantilevers can be added on one or both sides of the main girders, extending the working area beyond the rails to handle oversized or off-track loads efficiently.
